O! St. John’s, you devil / O! hometown / O! neglected colonial outpost turned tourist attraction / O! unearned intimacy, o! affection unreturnèd / O! your trauma-site heritage structures / O! your dry rivers and rising ocean / O! your summer air still sweet with rosescent and birdsong!
