Looking up at poles, wires, rooftops, and a grey sky. It's hard to tell in the photo, but there is snow falling toward the camera. The houses are dusted with snow as well.

I’ve been revisiting some old writing of mine from around 2017, focusing on events that were going on within CanLit at the time. Wowsers. What a wild year that was. I’m working on making the best of it into a mid-length first-person essay looking back on the so-called “appropriation debate” (spoiler: it wasn’t a debate, just white writers sooking because Indigenous folks had the nerve to insist on sovereignty over their own narratives) and how that moment in time informed my epistemology and my pedagogy going forward. In my mind, it’s a fascinating paper. On the screen? So far kind of meh, but I think I can make it work.
