A derelict, abandoned fire hall, viewed from behind. The building is painted a sort of Prussian blue with butter-yellow trim. The paint has worn off in patches. The bottom third of the building is covered with graffiti. Two rows of windows, some boarded up, are visible in the upper part of the building. There are bare trees and yellowed winter grasses to the sides and in the foreground. On the right is the back of a dark, clapboard-covered house; on the left, a white industrial building. The sky is bright blue and streaked with thin white clouds.

I chatted with a neighbour this morning — one of those “how are you doing?” exchanges that turns into “no, how are you really doing?” How am I really doing? Okay, I think? Better than most?
