A bright blue sky and high white clouds, viewed through bare birch branches. In the distance: more leafless birch trees.

Walking along the trail this morning, I passed a writer I’ve met several times before. She was smiling, and remarked how lovely it was to have the robins back. Nice to encounter a fellow bird-listener. The robins were, indeed, out in droves. Also announcing themselves: American goldfinches, starlings, crows (of course), house sparrows, juncos, and the usual distant seagulls. I tried to record them, but I kept being interrupted by car sounds. There’s a little strip of road on my walk where the trees are particularly diverse, and that strip seems to harbour more birds than anywhere else on my route.
